Meet the Team

We are proud to announce our newly established leadership team at SA Thermal Engineering (SATE).  Together with our committed Team Leaders and employees across the site we believe we have the skills and attributes to build on the already established business specialisms and drive SATE forward to become a supplier and employer of choice for customers and employees alike.  We have carefully selected our leadership team to help drive our business improvements and would like to introduce you to the team below.

Jon Rowland – Chief Executive Officer

Jon Rowland

I joined Thermal Engineering as CEO in February 2016 having spent 4 years at GKN Aerospace as GM at the Yeovil site, followed by Head of Programme for Honeywell Turbo Fan Engines.  Throughout my career I have always worked within the Aerospace industry, working at Cobham, GE Aviation and British Aerospace so bring a large amount of customer knowledge and experience to Thermal Engineering. I am currently focusing on improving the operational performance of the business, thereby re-building customer confidence allowing us to grow the business in the future.

Miles Garrod – Chief Financial Officer

Miles Garrod

I joined SA Thermal Engineering in February 2015 after spending 3 years with Moog as the Finance Director of the Navigational Aids and Surveillance Systems Sector. Prior to that I spent 4 years as Group Financial Controller at Everest Home Improvements. I’m a fully qualified chartered accountant (ICAEW) and have 15 years of post-qualification experience from time spent in practice (BDO Stoy Hayward) and industry. I have a strong blend of technical, leadership and interpersonal skills that enable me to recognise, communicate and implement sustainable growth in profitability and sales.

Mike Picken - Head of Engineering

Mike Picken

I joined Thermal Engineering in July 2016 as Head of Engineering having previously been with Rolls-Royce as a Manufacturing Engineering Manager for 5 years. Throughout my career I have worked for Aerospace, Defence and Automotive OEM and Tier 1 Engineering Companies covering such areas as New Product Introduction, Repair and Overhaul, Process Engineering, Continuous Improvement and Production Transfer.  My aim is to take SATE to a new level of Engineering and Process Excellence.

Mark Pilborough - Operations Director

Mark Pilborough

I have worked at Thermal Engineering since May 1999 starting on the shop floor in Metallic Insulation. I then moved on within the organisation gaining my accreditation in Non-destructive testing before going on to carry out roles such as Quality Engineer, Commercial Manager, Business Unit Manager and now Operations Director. Throughout the years I have seen the business move from strength to strength; I have enjoyed being part of the continuous improvement journey.

Alan Jones – Head of Commercial Sales

Alan Jones

I am Head of Commercial at SA Thermal Engineering, having joined the team in July 2016. I hold 37 years of experience in various functions within Aerospace, primarily focussed on integrated landing gear and hydraulic actuation systems, plus more recently on high pressure/high temperature bleed-air ducting systems. From my previous role as Director of Sales, Marketing and Programme Management, I bring significant knowledge and best practice from leading aerospace companies such as Messier-Bugatti-Dowty, Smiths Aerospace, GE Aviation and other Senior Aerospace businesses. Working closely with a small team of Customer Account Managers, my mission is to ensure high levels of customer engagement and satisfaction, contract compliance and profitable growth through strategic business development.

Stanley Revers – Head of Quality & Special Processes Engineering

Stan Revers

I started with SA Thermal Engineering (SATE) in Royston in July 2015 as Head of Quality & Special Processes Engineering.  I bring both broad and deep experience working within the global aerospace and defence industries – in the realms of quality, special processes, engineering, supplier development, and globalisation/strategic growth.  I have previously served in many functions, including global business management and technical engineering leadership roles whilst employed by organisations such as the Performance Review Institute (PRI) both in Europe and the Americas, as well as on-assignment work in Asia-Pacific.  As a benefit of my service with PRI, the administrators of the global Nadcap program, I bring extensive aerospace quality & special processes management experience to SATE and am able to leverage my well-developed network of industry contacts for the betterment of the Quality Assurance, Special Processes Engineering, and Management teams’ objectives at SATE.

Jenny Hughes – HR Manager

Jenny Hughes

I joined Thermal Engineering as Human Resources Manager in August 2016 having previously spent 5 years with GE Aviation as a Human Resources Manager.  I have a strong background in organisational improvement, employee development and engagement.  I am focussed on creating opportunities for the business to attract and retain the best talent and develop a workplace environment and culture which makes its employees proud to be a part of the SATE team.

Stewart Fenney – EH&S Manager

Stewart Feeney

I joined Thermal Engineering as EH&S Manager in November 2015, having previously spent 6 years at British Sugar focusing on high risk safety improvement processes including contractor management/ supply chain, Transport Management, chemical management and behavioural safety. I bring a wealth of experience from working in many high profile industries including the Railway industry, Construction, Facilities Management, Food Processing, Manufacturing and Retail. I started out my career in the Royal Navy as a mechanical engineer where I spent 8 years, and served in the Falklands war. On leaving the Royal Navy I moved into Fire Safety and then Health & Safety. My current focus is in the development and delivery of bespoke EHS management systems and delivering improvements in behavioural safety leadership through coaching and mentoring solutions.

Chris Barrett – Supply Chain Manager

I am the Supply Chain Manager for SATE and have been so since January ’16.  I began my career in Supply Chain/Stock Control when working as a Clerical Team Leader for De Beers Diamonds in London.  This role enabled me to experience the world of luxury goods as well as international sale demands and shipping procedures.   More recently I was employed by Providor Ltd, a business installing gas utility solutions on behalf of SSE, National Grid and OVO, as their nationwide Supply Chain Manager.  I bring external industry supply chain methods which, thus far, have proved beneficial to SATE.

Neil Waters – Fabrications Value Stream Manager

Neil Waters

I joined Thermal Engineering as Fabrications Value Stream Manager in July 2016 having previously spent 5 years with GKN Aerospace as a Continuous Improvement Manager and Value Stream Manager. I have a wealth of experience using lean manufacturing and Continuous Improvement tools to deliver sustained improvements. I am currently focussed on using Lean tools, Coaching and Employee Engagement to implement change in the Fabrications areas in order to eliminate waste from processes and increase productivity.

Matthew Coles – Insulations Value Stream Manager

Matthew Coles

I joined Thermal Engineering as Insulations Value Stream Manager in August 2016 having previously spent 5 years with Safran Electrical & Power as a Supplier Performance Manager.  I have a strong background in lean manufacturing and Continuous Improvement so am focussed on implementing change in the Insulations area in order to eliminate waste from processes and increase productivity.
